Letting Go of Control: Just Flow With It

Have you ever had everything planned out perfectly, only for life to completely mess it up?

I hate that! And that’s exactly what happened to me recently.

Last November, I had an exciting event planned at a great venue in Clearwater, Florida. Everything was set. But then—two hurricanes hit the area right before the event date.

Power outages. Property damage. The whole situation made it impossible to move forward as planned. So, we had to reschedule.
Then, of course, the holidays hit, and my team and I decided to push the event to late January.

As part of the venue agreement, I had to commit to a minimum of 30 attendees. But by early January, I only had a handful of sign-ups.

We went all in on advertising, and more people started registering. But it still wasn’t enough. I had to make a tough call—either move forward and take a financial hit or cancel the event.

I decided to cancel. And, of course, the moment I did, another group of people reached out, wanting to attend. But by then, it was too late.

I felt backed into a corner.

I hated making that decision. But honestly? I should have seen it coming.

The universe had been sending me signals all along that this wasn’t the right time for the event. I just wasn’t listening.

Or maybe, I didn’t want to listen.

Letting go of control is not easy for me.

Trusting that things will work out? Not really my strong suit. Even though, deep down, I know things always go smoother when I stop trying to force them.

I don’t know why I tend to cling so hard to being in control. Maybe it’s because it feels safer to pretend I have control over everything. But the reality? The only things I can actually control are my reactions, my behaviors, and how I show up in the world.

Everything else? Completely out of my hands.

And logically, I know this. But still, I resist.

Ironically, the moment I stop forcing things and just flow, everything starts to fall into place.
I end up exactly where I need to be.

Words pour onto the page effortlessly. Time flies by and I am in that beautiful state of “being in the zone.” Things feel lighter. Easier. Better.

I love that feeling. But it only happens when I finally let go.

Right around the time I made the tough call to cancel the event, something else happened—my book was published and ready to launch.
Suddenly, I had the time and space to focus on what truly mattered: sharing my work and supporting others on their personal development journeys.

I had been so determined to make the event happen, but the universe had other plans. When I finally let go, it gave me the space I needed to focus on something even more important.

I won’t sugarcoat it—learning to let go of control isn’t easy. At first, it feels uncomfortable. Even scary. But so worth it.
Try moving with life—like floating down a river. Trust that the current will carry you exactly where you need to go.

Give it a shot. You might just find that letting go feels really good.

Jackie
